Principal's Message

Welcome to Term 2

It has been a wonderful start to Term 2, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our entire school community for the positive, focused and enthusiastic way in which everyone has returned. Classrooms have quickly settled into productive routines, and it has been a pleasure to see students engaged in their learning, reconnecting with peers and embracing the opportunities that a new term brings.

There is a strong sense of momentum across the school, with students demonstrating curiosity, resilience and a genuine commitment to doing their best. These early weeks set the tone for the term ahead, and we are off to an excellent start.

This week is also a particularly important one for our staff, as we are fortunate to have two curriculum days dedicated to professional learning. These days provide a valuable opportunity for our teachers to deepen their understanding of concept-driven curriculum within the PYP classroom. This approach supports students to think more deeply, make meaningful connections and develop a stronger understanding of the ideas that underpin their learning.

We are privileged to be able to invest this time in professional growth, ensuring that our teaching practices continue to evolve and reflect best practice. Ultimately, this benefits every student, as we strive to provide engaging, challenging and purposeful learning experiences.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I look forward to all that Term 2 will bring.

Industrial Action in Schools

You may be aware through media coverage that members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) are currently undertaking industrial action across government schools in Victoria. We understand that this may raise questions, so we would like to outline what this means.

From the beginning of Term 2, AEU members are taking part in a range of actions as part of ongoing negotiations with the Victorian Department of Education. These actions are designed to highlight concerns while allowing schools to remain open and focused on student learning.

In practical terms, this means:

  • Teachers may not attend up to one hour of meetings each week.
  • School leaders (principal class employees) will not attend certain regional or statewide meetings.
  • Staff will limit responses to emails from the Department of Education, except where they relate to important matters such as child safety, staff wellbeing, or employee entitlements.
  • Schools will pause the introduction of any new Department-led programs or initiatives during this time.
  • If a Member of the Victorian Parliament visits a school, staff involved in the industrial action may stop work for the duration of that visit.
  • Staff participating in the action may wear union-related materials or briefly pause work to share information about the campaign with the community.

Importantly, classroom teaching and learning programs will continue, and our priority remains providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for all students.

At this stage, the most noticeable impact for families will be in relation to student reporting. This means that AEU members will not be providing Continuous Reporting tasks or written comments in reports until there is an agreement in place.

There will also be rolling half day stop work strikes by region over the coming months. At KPS our stop work date is Thursday June 4 from 9 – 12:38pm. More information will be communicated with you when we have it.

We appreciate your understanding and ongoing support as we navigate this period. Our school remains committed to maintaining strong communication and ensuring the best possible outcomes for our students.

Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) Shortage

We wanted to keep you informed about something many schools across Victoria are currently experiencing—a shortage of Casual Relief Teachers (CRTs).

CRTs play an important role in covering classes when teachers are away due to illness, professional learning, or other commitments. At the moment, it can sometimes be tricky to find a suitable replacement teacher, especially at short notice.

If we’re unable to secure a CRT, we may occasionally need to split a class across other classrooms for the day. We know this isn’t ideal, and we want to reassure you that this is always a last resort.

When this does happen, we take care to place students in supportive classrooms, often with familiar teachers or peers. Our staff work closely together to make sure routines continue as smoothly as possible and that learning stays on track.

We do have plans in place for these situations, and our focus remains on keeping things calm, consistent and productive for students.

2027 Enrolments Now Open

We’re excited to let our community know that enrolments for 2027 are now officially open!

If you have a child starting school in 2027 or know of families who may be considering their options, we warmly invite you to begin the enrolment process. Choosing the right school is an important decision, and we are proud to offer a welcoming environment where students are supported to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our school community is one of our greatest strengths, and many of our new families come to us through word of mouth. If you know friends, neighbours, or family members who may be interested in joining our school, we would greatly appreciate you sharing this news with them.

School tours and opportunities to learn more about our programs will be available throughout the term, giving prospective families a chance to see our school in action. Please see the attached flyer for dates and times.

If you would like more information or an enrolment pack, please contact the school office—we’d be very happy to help.

We look forward to welcoming new families into our community in 2027!

Lost Property

We have moved the location of lost property. It can now be found in the foyer of the hall – around the side of the student toilets. Please go in and check – there is HEAPS there!

Years 4-6 Attitudes to School Survey

During May, students in Years 4–6 will be participating in the annual Attitudes to School Survey. This is a statewide survey that gives students the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences about school life, including areas such as wellbeing, engagement and relationships.

The survey is completed online at school and is designed to be age-appropriate. Student responses are confidential and the results are used by the school to better understand student perspectives and to help guide future planning and improvement.

We encourage all students to take part and answer honestly, as their feedback plays an important role in shaping a positive and supportive learning environment for everyone.

Dogs in the School

We respectfully ask that all dogs remain outside the school gates, especially at drop off and pick up times.

Classroom Cuisine Menu

Please see an updated menu for Term 2, 2026.

They have added a Pepperoni Pizza, Vegetable Pastie with Tomato Sauce, Cheese & Salad Roll and a Mexi Style Wrap with Chicken, Salsa, Cheese, Salad & Corn Chips to our main course items.

Please note, the Pepperoni Pizza is made with beef pepperoni not pork, and is therefore Halal.
