Your dedication and hard work have truly made this term special and memorable. I have thoroughly enjoyed this term and feel a real sense of energy bouncing around our school – what a wonderful place to be!

To our amazing students: We are incredibly proud of all the progress you’ve made. From new friendships to exciting discoveries in the classroom, you’ve shown so much growth and enthusiasm. Keep up the great work!

To our wonderful parents and guardians: Your involvement and encouragement have been invaluable. Whether you’ve helped with homework, attended events, or just cheered from the sidelines, your support has made a world of difference.

To our exceptional teachers and staff: Your passion and commitment to nurturing young learners is truly inspiring. Thank you for creating a vibrant and engaging learning environment. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for everything you do.

Annual Reporting Meeting

It is a legislative requirement that all Victorian government schools prepare an Annual Report by 30 April each year, and that this includes specific information on student outcomes, attendance and financial activities. This report rolls through numerous control factors before full attestation. Once attested, the report must be presented at a public reporting meeting that can be attended by any member of our school or wider community. This year we will be holding our reporting meeting on Monday October 21st at 6pm in the library. All are very welcome to attend.

Student Placement for 2025

The process at Kingsville Primary School

The construction of new classes for any year is a dynamic and a designed process, which ensures that children are thought of both individually and collectively.  When we are working to compile class groups many factors are taken into account including; academic ability, individual needs, gender, student relationships, social and emotional traits, behaviour, working relationships, influences (the influence a child has on others, how others influence them) and, previous class placements/teachers etc. All these elements are considered in building the new “learning communities”, as we make decisions about what is in the best educational interests of all students. Throughout this process we approach the work from a point of view which has a focus on what each child can bring to a class as, we believe in creating diverse learning communities with a balance of skills, knowledge, learning styles, relationships (old and new), etc. across the groups.

As students at Kingsville progress from Foundation to Year 6, it is expected they will learn to work and relate to a range of teachers and students. As with all school decisions, the aim is to offer the best possible learning experience for all our children.

To manage the complexities of information considered when constructing new classes, the school uses a program called ‘Classroom Creator.’ Teachers are asked to input into the system information about each child in their current class across the ‘fields’ of academic ability, individual needs, gender, student relationship, social and emotional traits, behaviour, working relationships, etc. The classroom teacher is significant in this data input; however, consultation and contributions are also sought from other members in the level, support staff, previous teachers, specialist teachers and leadership.

All the information entered by the staff into the variety of fields is then ‘crunched’ and the new classes are created. How the system manages and prioritises the data is in the coding. The new classes developed are a balance of all the information recorded across the different fields. As a result, not one single field dominates the other and so not all references can be achieved.

At the conclusion of this, the human factor takes over again, more time by staff (class teachers, support aides and specialists) and leadership is allocated to fine-tune the lists, review issues the system flags, and teachers notice. Manual changes and tweaking then occur. It is during this time that all involved in this process decide if what the system has produced is fair and, if things are changed or not accommodated there is insightful justification for this happening. This year we will be introducing year level transition sessions so that students begin to get the feel of what it will be like to transition to the next year level in the hope of reducing some anxieties and to reinvigorate friendships across the year level.

It is important to note that class groups are not allocated a teacher until the whole school class model is completed. This ensures that it is the dynamic of each group which is the focus rather than, a particular teacher.

This important element of school organisation begins soon. The role of student voice in the creating of learning environments will be explained in future newsletters and Emma will put a call out for parent feedback when the time is right.

Captain's Corner

Hello and welcome to Captain’s Corner something edition! Coming up is the last day of term; I am sure plenty of children will be incredibly sad, (*cough, cough*) and you will all be terribly upset at the end of Term 3, (“yeah, right”) but I digress. Anyhow, the science fair will be up, and running come Term 4, so everybody get excited. The year 3/4's will be getting packed for their camp coming up. Over to Louie...

Thank you, Willy. As you may already know, the grade 6’s are doing their exhibition. Willy and I had some conversations with some of the grade 6 students and here are their responses:

Bastian says that he believes that exhibition is an opportunity to learn and gain new knowledge and skills.

Noah says that he reckons that the exhibition allows you to express your and show your personal interests.

Elli says it is very fun because she has never done something so big in unit of inquiry before. She got to work with a ton of new things and new people and what she is interested in.

Celebrating Milestones - Kingsville's PYP Birthday

Both Aboriginal Australians and early European pioneers shared a deep connection to the land, using its features for navigation. For Aboriginal Australians, songlines were not just navigational tools but living stories connecting them to their Country, community, and culture. Early explorers relied on landmarks like rivers and trees to guide them. While Aboriginal Australians followed ancestral knowledge and spiritual paths, early explorers used physical markers for survival—both guided by a respect for the land.

These shared experiences reflect a universal human need for guidance during change. Milestones—whether spiritual or physical—serve as moments to pause, reflect, and celebrate progress. Just as these paths helped navigate challenges, educational milestones guide us in understanding the significance of each step forward.

On Monday, 9th September, Kingsville Primary School celebrates 15 years as an IB World School, marking a new milestone in its journey. In 2009, KPS was one of only 45 authorized PYP schools in Australia; today, there are 215. KPS has gained a strong reputation within the IB network for fostering internationally minded students.

Following our 2022 IB Evaluation, which highlighted strengths like community, diversity, and inclusion, we continue to celebrate the work of our students, staff, and leaders in developing globally aware young people.

Footy & Sports Colours Day

We're wearing our footy and sports colours for kids with cancer!

Every year more than 950 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer in Australia. With treatment starting instantly they face, on average, more than 6 months away from their school and school friends.

This year, Kingsville Primary School is taking part in Fight Cancer Foundation's Footy Colours Day to help these kids! We’ll be celebrating all things footy and sport on the last day of Term 3, Friday 20th September, so make sure you wear your favourite footy or sports colours to school. Most importantly, we are raising funds to support kids with cancer, and we’re encouraging everyone to dig deep and donate. You can donate online before, during or after our event here: https://www.footycoloursday.com.au/fundraisers/KingsvillePrimarySchool/footy-colours-day-2024-school

All the money we raise will help the Fight Cancer Foundation to provide accommodation and support for cancer patients and their families and fund vital life-saving research into cancer treatment and cures.

The accommodation centres offer families living with cancer a home away from home when they need it most, reducing the financial and emotional burden of a cancer diagnosis.

Please donate what you can and help make a difference to the lives of kids with cancer!

Kind regards,

Lucy Oates (Teacher, on behalf of the Student Representative Council)
