Principal's Message

Settling into a Great School Year!

We are now well into the new school year, and it has been wonderful to see how smoothly our students, staff, and families have settled into their routines. Despite the many changes to the way we work, interact, and communicate, our school community has shown resilience, enthusiasm, and a true sense of togetherness.

From the very first weeks, we have been amazed by the positivity and adaptability of our young learners. Whether it's mastering new schedules, embracing different learning methods, or showing kindness and respect to one another, our students have made us so proud. We are particularly delighted by how well everyone has adjusted to new ways of learning, both in and out of the classroom. The spirit of teamwork and perseverance is stronger than ever!

We also acknowledge that this time comes with a lot of information to process. With so many updates, new guidelines, and adjustments, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Please know that we are here to support you every step of the way, and we appreciate your patience and engagement as we navigate these times together.

A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff, who have worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition into the school year. Their commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment has been truly inspiring. We also extend our gratitude to parents and carers for their ongoing support and encouragement—it is through this strong partnership that our school continues to thrive.

As we move forward, we remain excited for the journey ahead. There are many exciting events, activities, and learning opportunities planned, and we look forward to seeing our students continue to grow, learn, and shine.

In other news… we received notification yesterday that our school has been successful in obtaining a grant worth $267,000.00 to upgrade and maintain our beautiful old school building. We look forward to working with the Victorian School Building Authority on this exciting project!

Thank you all for making the beginning of this school year so special. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!

Emma

Congratulations!

We have a prize winning artist on our staff!! Our very talented art teacher Monica was awarded the coveted People’s Choice award at the Linden Postcard Show. Her piece ‘Chunky Scribbles’ was a crowd favourite!

Now in its 34th year, the Postcard Show is a much-loved annual highlight of Linden’s exhibition program. It is open to everyone. It provides a platform for all creatives to showcase their works to a large and eager audience. The Postcard Show is a celebration of a diverse, complex, and vibrant artistic community.

We are so proud of you Mon!

Kingsville Primcary School Continuous Reporting

When I first began at Kingsville Primary School early in 2024, I sent out a short survey to families for feedback on their experience here and what they would like more of / less of. I have been slowly and systematically working through this feedback trying hard to make the best possible outcomes and experiences for all.

One stand out reply from families was that you would like to be more connected with your child’s learning and progress. The partnership between home and school is vital, therefore this year we are introducing a Continuous Reporting Schedule across all subject areas to ensure families receive timely and purposeful feedback on their child’s learning progress. We are going to begin this process slowly, covering only mathematical areas this term and then branching out to all subject areas from next term. Please find some important information below:

What is Continuous Reporting?

As the name suggests, Continuous Reporting provides families with meaningful feedback in real time. Instead of receiving assessment results only twice per year through formal reports, families receive regular updates throughout the semester.

Feedback may come in different forms:

  • Formative Assessment – A test or work sample completed before a unit of work to establish the student’s current level of understanding, guiding the teacher on the next steps in their learning.
  • Summative Assessment – Results from the end of a unit of work, reflecting the student’s achievement.

Continuous Reporting allows students to reflect on their progress and make improvements along the way, while also keeping families actively engaged in their child’s learning journey.

Benefits of Continuous Reporting

Some key benefits include:

  • Increased quantity, quality, and consistency of feedback available to families.
  • Supports families in tracking, reflecting on, and improving learning, helping students develop independence.
  • Enables teachers, students, parents, and caregivers to take effective and immediate action to support student learning.
  • Enhances parental awareness of and engagement with their child’s learning progress and achievements.
  • Facilitates more meaningful communication between students, parents, caregivers, and teachers.
  • Increases transparency and accountability for students, teachers, parents, and caregivers regarding academic progress.

How Will We Deliver the Information?

All feedback will be released via Compass, just like our current reporting cycle. Families will receive a notification when new feedback is available. Feedback will be accessible via the Learning Tasks Tab and is best viewed on a desktop computer rather than a mobile phone.

Will I Still Receive an End-of-Semester Report?

Yes! While feedback on student performance will be provided throughout the semester, end-of-semester reports will now include:

  • Progression Point of Achievement against the curriculum for the semester.
  • General Comment, including effort and behavior indicators.

Continuous Reporting at Kingsville Primary Is… and Is Not…

Continuous Reporting Is…

A way to stay updated on your child’s progress regularly.

An opportunity to discuss learning progress with your child.

Continuous Reporting Is Not…

An opportunity for Parent-Teacher Interviews each time feedback is released.

Teachers will contact parents if they have particular concerns during the semester. Opportunities for parent-teacher interviews will still be available at the beginning of the year and as per our reporting timelines.

What Will This Look Like?

Teachers will use various methods to provide feedback on student progress. Initially, feedback will focus on mathematical concepts, with expansion into other areas over time. Feedback may include:

  • A Comment – A personalised remark on the student’s work, highlighting achievements and areas for future learning.
  • Achievement Dot Point – A benchmark-based rating using a five-point scale: Well Above Standard, Above Standard, At Standard, Below Standard, Well Below Standard.
  • Personal Growth Dot Point – Indicates student growth from the beginning to the end of a unit. For example, a student may receive a “Below Standard” rating but also a “High Personal Growth” rating, showing significant progress even if the curriculum benchmark was not met. Growth levels will be reported as High, Standard, or Low.
  • Effort Dot Point – Reflects the student’s attitude and effort toward a task, reported as Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, or Needs Attention.

Through Continuous Reporting, Kingsville Primary School ensures students, families, and teachers remain actively involved in the learning process, fostering growth and achievement throughout the year.
