Principal's Message

Dear Families,

As we are on the downside of Term 1, we want to take a moment to reflect on our school year so far and continue to work together to make our learning environment the best it can be. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we’d love to hear about your Term 1 experiences.

We kindly ask that you take a few minutes to fill out a short survey via the link below. Your thoughts and insights will help guide us as we continue to improve our programs and ensure that we are meeting the needs of all our students.

The feedback we receive from you plays an important role in shaping our school's direction and ensuring that we are providing the best possible educational experience for your child. Whether it’s suggestions, concerns, or compliments, we appreciate your input.

The survey will only take a few minutes, and all responses will be kept confidential. We encourage all families to participate so we can hear from as many voices as possible.

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to hearing your feedback and continuing to work together for the benefit of our students.

We are also excited to share a draft of our 2024 Annual Report with you. This report highlights the incredible achievements, progress, and growth we have experienced over the past year. From student successes to innovative programs, and from community partnerships to new facilities, this year has been filled with milestones worth celebrating. This report will be shared and discussed at school council at our upcoming meeting on Monday.

We have big plans for the next few years at KPS which are extremely exciting. You will notice in our Annual Report that a significant amount of money has been set aside to work on upgrading different parts of our school, particularly the upstairs of our beautiful old building. Our aim is to restore the heritage features of our school whilst providing modern classrooms that meet the needs of contemporary education. We are also in the beginning stages of developing the playground space along Cruickshank Park to include a ‘loose parts’ playground that will foster imagination and creativity.

The fundraising that families are generously participating in will assist us in further developing our STEM program as well as providing our students with opportunities that fall outside our school budgeting scope. This will include things like a bike education program for our 3-6 students. We can’t thank you all enough for your generosity that enables this to happen.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Emma

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge 2025: Encouraging a Love of Reading!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the 2025 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge! This is a wonderful opportunity for students of all year levels to develop a love of reading while exploring a diverse range of books. From magical adventures and historical tales to intriguing mysteries, the Challenge offers something for every young reader.

How the Challenge Works:
Students are encouraged to read a set number of books before the Challenge concludes in early September.

  • Foundation to Year 2: Read or experience 30 books
  • Years 3 to 6: Read 15 books

Participating is easy! Your child has been provided with a VPRC username and password by their classroom teacher. They can log their reading journey through their online personal profile, which you can access here: Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge.

We invite you to support your child’s reading adventure by encouraging regular reading at home, sharing stories together, and celebrating their progress along the way. The Challenge is not just about reaching a target but also about sparking curiosity, building literacy skills, and sharing the joy of reading.

For more detailed information on how to get involved, visit: Victorian Government - Premier's Reading Challenge.

Let's work together to nurture a lifelong love of reading in our children. Thank you for your continued support!

Happy reading!

Traditional Easter Hat Parade

We are now over the hump of this 10-week term. It is therefore time to provide some information and direction regarding our Traditional Yearly Easter Hat Parade that occurs at the school on the last day of term, Friday April 4.

Easter is still some time away but as usual the signs are out there with ‘eggs’, ‘chickens’ and ‘rabbits’ so to speak, in the shops already. It is not too early however, for parents and children’s minds to turn to Easter Bonnets “with all the trims upon it”.

Our 2024 event was truly spectacular and has grown over the many years from a school assembly style event to a ‘Gala Occasion’. Holding our parade is a delightful way to finish the term. I am always so thrilled in the ways parents and extended families embrace this event.

Parade Details

Date:               Friday April 4

Time:              9:15 – 10:30 approximately

Location:        in the Monday morning assembly area in front of the deck

Audience:      parents, grandparents, family and friends

Dress Code for audience:

  • audience members are encouraged to wear a hat or a head wear creation or just have an Easter touch
  • some seating available on the steps of the deck

So all “old” KPS parents you have been through the Easter Hat Challenge before, new parents here are some guidelines for you.

  1. as always, I recommend don’t panic, we do not want Kingsville parents staying up creating “millinery masterpieces” into the wee small hours
  2. we do want it to be all about participation and fun for the students and creating great memories of events and traditions during their primary school life.

So, families get together to create your headgear e.g.

  • a Kingsville creation
  • a school sun hat decorated
  • traditional Easter theme
  • PYP “Profile of the Learner” hat (and we might see):
  • balanced
  • open minded caring creative hats

or

  • other traditional Easter symbols

Yes, usually a football theme will always sneak in somewhere as well and that is fine. Teachers provide a great example and will always create and wear a hat and parade with their class.

So, glue guns to the ready yet again and, let the imagination go and see what happens. Some members of our support staff team will again form a panel of observers who will cast their eyes over all entries and acknowledge special efforts from each class. Not the best, biggest or fanciest – just a special effort award for a member of each class and yes, a parent one as well.

Remember this is a casual clothes day so take that into consideration regarding the overall practicality of hat. Also, the weather i.e. on windy days hats may need more attachment to the head. In some years there have been cases of students matching their casual clothes outfits to their Easter hat theme – extraordinary efforts.
